This is a Lionel 517 Vintage Standard Gauge Tinplate Red Caboose with Black Roof from the late 1920s and early 1930s. This is the special 'coal train' 517 with a black roof. Features include interior illumination, all tinplate construction, link couplers, tinplate trucks with journals, metal wheels and axles. This caboose is part of Lionel's 500 series standard gauge freight cars which are a bit smaller than the 200 series large freight cars.
Per our grading of this item, it is equivalent to the TCA rating of R-4: Very Good -- Restored to a general high standard. However, noticeable differences exist particularly with respect to the color, finish, and texture of paint when compared to an original piece.
