Lionel 6-21797 O Gauge Southern Pacific Daylight Steam Passenger Train Set EX/Box

This is a Lionel 21797 O Gauge Southern Pacific Daylight Steam Passenger Set from 2001. Enjoy the great looks and performance of the 4-4-2 Atlantic steam locomotive. Sold separately in the Northern Pacific livery, or as part of the stunning Southern Pacific Daylight set, this medium-sized locomotive is ready to deliver for you. Notice the different tenders pulled behind each boiler, and the crisp decoration of arguably the most beautiful of all paint schemes, the SP Daylight. Outfitted with the best features available, these Atlantics will be talked about for years. Included is a Southern Pacific 4-4-2 Atlantic steam locomotive and tender, a baggage car, 2 coach cars and an observation car. Features include odyssey system for speed control, a trainmaster command control system, a precision can motor with momentum flywheel, a railsounds sound system with crewTalk chitchat and towercom announcements, a die-cast boiler, tender, trucks and pilots, an electrocoupler on rear of tender, a puffing smoke unit, traction tires, an operating headlight, directional lighting, a red firebox glow, metal handrails and engineer and fireman figures. The passenger cars feature die-cast trucks, car ends and operating couplers, metal frames, detailed molded bodies, interior illumination, full new interiors and opening doors.

Originally introduced in 1880 in the UK, the "Atlantic" or 4-4-2 would rise to prominence around the world in little to no time after its introduction. Respected and beloved around the world from the United States to Mozambique, the 4-4-2 found itself commissioned in various rail-yards across several continents. In the United States the 4-4-2 would be called the "Milwaukee “due to it running on the Milwaukee rail-road, but most would find that the "Atlantic" just rolled off the tongue a little bit better. In its construction the 4-4-2 saw an advantage over other locomotives thanks to its trailing wheels allowing for a deeper firebox in the driving wheels. Most of the Atlantic models would see their time in the spotlight come to an end, and would eventually go out of commission in the mid-20th century. Today handfuls exist in preservation status in various rail-road museums.
