This is a Lionel 671 Vintage O 6-8-6 Die-Cast Steam Turbine Locomotive w/ a 2046W Tender from 1946-49. This classic features die-cast metal construction, a worm drive motor, an operating smoke unit, an operating headlight, a 3 position forward-neutral-reverse E-unit, metal side rods and metal wheels. The 671 was a mainstay of Lionel‘s line in the late 1940s. The tender features plastic construction, die-cast trucks, knuckle coupler and metal wheels & axles.

The 6-8-6 was powerful at high speeds, and was initially seen as a possible challenger to the Diesel locomotives that were beginning to dominate rail-yards in North America.
